Pengaruh Latihan Isometric Handgrip terhadap Penurunan Tekanan Darah pada Penderita Hipertensi di Kelurahan Lapulu Kecamatan Abeli

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease and remains a major health problem in Indonesia, contributing to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. One non-pharmacological intervention is isometric handgrip exercises. This exercise improves endothelial function and reduces vascular resistance. This study was a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group. Thirty respondents were selected through purposive sampling and divided into two groups: the intervention group (n=15), who received isometric handgrip exercises, and the control group (n=15), who received handgrip exercises. Blood pressure was measured before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the intervention using a digital sphygmomanometer.The results showed a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group after isometric handgrip exercises, with a Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (p<0.05) showing a p-value of 0.001. Meanwhile, in the control group, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a p-value of 0.006. (p < 0.05), indicating significant change in blood pressure. The results show that both interventions had an effect; however, isometric handgrip exercise was more effective in lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension (p = 0.001) The conclusion of this study is that isometric hangdrip exercise is effective in reducing blood pressure in people with hypertension. This therapy can be used as a non-pharmacological intervention option that is simple, safe, and easy to implement in daily practice.
