Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that commonly occurs in the elderly and causes pain and limited movement, especially in the knee joints. One of the non-pharmacological therapies used to reduce pain is Range of Motion (ROM) exercises. This study aimed to determine the effect of ROM exercises on the intensity of knee joint pain in elderly individuals with osteoarthritis in the working area of Puskesmas Lakansai. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 18 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), while data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The ROM exercise intervention was carried out for two weeks with a frequency of three times per week. The results showed a decrease in pain intensity after the ROM exercises were administered, with a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that there was a significant effect of ROM exercises on reducing knee joint pain in elderly individuals with osteoarthritis. The conclusion of this study is that Range of Motion (ROM) exercises are effective in reducing the intensity of knee joint pain in elderly individuals with osteoarthritis.
